@Pfeifle27McLovin The '62 Chevy Nova took over for the Chevy Corvair which Ralph Nader help to end it's (Corvair) existence. The Nova's targeted rival was Ford's '62 Falcon. The standard in all Chevy II's except the Nova 400 was an inline 4-cylinder engine with 90 hp. The 327 engine in the '62 Nova was a (dealer installed) option--not regular production option until I think 1965.

@Pfeifle27McLovin Listen, I don't know where you obtained this information, but, I do know this. Where on a 1962 Chevy Nova is there an emblem of a Pony? The 1964 Mustang has it's emblem right in the front grille for everyone to see. The term "Mustang" means just that a Pony. I grew up during this era and the '62 Nova was just another car until 1965 after Pontiac's introduction of the LeMans /Tempest/GTO. In 1965 Chevy placed a 327 cu in engine into the Nova.
By: Pfeifle27McLovin. on 22 Jul 10, 02:14:39
@GS455Stage1 Ford did not start the Pony War. Chevy did with the 1962 Nova 2 door 5 seater. Ford saw potential in it and copied them with the Mustang. Not many people know of that.

Was this car a factory automatic? I'm looking to doing a 4 speed conversion on my 72 Malibu.

you should have kept the original interior.. it would be alot cooler. i dont like the coustom cars from the muscle car era. its gotta look original inside and out..... in my opinion.

@clabbe77 Your Poly "318" is a small block engine with Poly-spherical cylinder heads from 1955 thru 1966 production years. Ford 351C and 351W are Ford Small Blocks. The 351M is a destroked 400 and it is a Big Block. My original information to the video was for the Muscle Car Class of 1965 thru 1972. From this a 383 thru 390 class begins BB according to engine manufacturer's engine designation. 1970 included (2) 400 cu. in. engines one SB and one BB-Mark IV (402). The End, no more discussion.
By: GS455Stage1. on 25 Jun 10, 05:29:29
@clabbe77 Now, for your wide blocks or you should have said Poly spherical Head engines of the late 50's and early 60's of Chrysler, Plymouth, and Dodge. You are right in one aspect I was talking about Big Block classification and you were talking about something in the early stages of Hemispherical Head engine design. These are entirely 2 different things. Also, yes, in the late 50's & early 60's there were B-engines "350" and "361" Big Blocks. Its 65 thru 72 not 56 thru 67 for engines.
By: GS455Stage1. on 25 Jun 10, 05:18:00
@clabbe77 After some further investigation into your claim of "318" Poly wide Block now, I understand the issue here. For all practical purposes the 390 cu.in. rule existed for the muscle car years of 1965 thru 1972. In 1970 when GM increased the Cu. in. limit to 500 cu. in. for which Cadillac had that honor. The 390 cu.in. limit was blurred to include the 400 chevy engine. However, the Chrysler 383 was never changed, it has always remained a Big Block and the 340 a Small Block.
By: GS455Stage1. on 25 Jun 10, 02:55:27
@clabbe77 What vehicle year, model, configuration that your Poly 318 Wide Body existed. If it is not a production registered passenger car unit, then your argument about it is moot. So, for every engine/vehicle configuration from 1954 thru the entire muscle car years until 1977 is well known and documented. What you classify your Ford 351 is just that your classification, not what Ford Motor Co. classification which is a Small Block, so get over it and move on. Don't bother me again.
By: GS455Stage1. on 25 Jun 10, 02:37:31
@clabbe77 Check the Ford engine specification listing, not what you have in your garage. The 351Cleveland or Windsor engines are always be Ford Small Blocks. The Ford 390 cu. in. engine begins the BB classification. Check Ford History. The C6 or C4 did not make the engine, it was Horse power / torque output that dictated their usage. So, for garages is concerned, I am the original of a 1970 GS 455 Stage1. I know this history inside and out for a long time now.
By: GS455Stage1. on 25 Jun 10, 02:31:33
@clabbe77 As for GM, it was in 1970 when all GM engines got a real boost in Cu. In. From the 350 chevy to 400 cu. in.The 400 was a misnomer. With BB 427 chevy to 454; Olds, Buick, Pontiac 400 to 455 cu.in. The 390 cu.in. rule was in effect to all U.S. passenger production from 1955 thru 1969. The Chrysler 383 and the Ford 390 are BB. The Ford 221 V8 thru 360 cu.in. are Small Blocks. The Cleveland or Windsor are Small Blocks. Transmission size was a production year availability.
By: GS455Stage1. on 25 Jun 10, 02:23:51
@clabbe77 Listen, I don't know what is wrong with you. Or, I really do. You are the one who doesn't want to admit they are wrong. If there is such thing as you say is a Poly 318, then what is the Chrysler production number and what vehicle the engine was placed in? As for Chrysler v8 engine history, there is no such specification or classification of a Poly anything much less Big Block
By: clabbe77. on 24 Jun 10, 19:18:47
@GS455Stage1 So sorry to disturb you, but search for or ask anyone who knows Mopar about the Poly 318 widebody since you don't believe there's a bigblock below 390 cui. Then you can come back here and appologize or maybe just stop trying to sound smarter than all other.
By: clabbe77. on 24 Jun 10, 19:08:11
@GS455Stage1 So you say that GM NEVER built a 400 cui smallblock, Mopar has never built a 318 bigblock, the 383 isn'r a bigblock and that Ford 351 Cleveland is a smallblock? Most humbly I refuse to participate in this no more as it would be insulting to my intelligence, how little it may be according to you. So remember to tell everyone with a 351 Cleveland they have a smallblock and see what they will answer you..
By: clabbe77. on 24 Jun 10, 18:57:24
@GS455Stage1 You can not be teached anything I see, just because the NHRA according to you states that the GM 400 smallblock is a bigblock doesn't make it so. It is a smallblock and will never be a bigblock. Also the 351 Cleveland is NOT a smallblock nor a bigblock, because the C4 nor the C6 tranny will fit on it, you have to use the FMX-tranny because the 351 Cleveland is neither big or smallblock. Check in my garage on my 351 if you don't believe me.
By: GS455Stage1. on 22 Jun 10, 16:47:33
@clabbe77 The 351 Cleveland is a small block motor and the "383" is and always will belong to the BB category of Chrysler /Dodge. And, your continued determination to your "318" in a wide block category is fruitless. Whatever the outside dimensions, it is about Cylinder Bore, Crankshaft Stroke, Connecting Rod length, and Cylinder Block deck height. Big Block or Small Block are determined by the above characteristics. You're talking about 2 distinct things with "wide block". vs Big Block
