actually, the ls1 is not a bigger engine than the lt1....the ls1 is a 346ci, lt1 is 350ci....both are great engines, but the lt1 has a few characteristics that are a pain in the ass to deal with, such as the optispark ignition, and reverse cooling system. Boost works better on lower compression engines, but if your internals are cast, then you could grenade the lower end with the quickness. There are some boosted stock ls1's and lt1's...but they are usually running low boost which limits the hp.

lol. if you watch, and watch closely. the vehicle didn't beat the 350z it was the driver of the 350 not being to great at the TREE.... watch the beginning, watch the firebird/transam jump on the tree correctly. and notice the late launch from the 350z. now watch this tho. at half track, the 350z had made up all but about 2 car lenghts.... so... had he left 2 seconds faster, he would have easily walked away from the transam.

There are always better, great, and perfect choices. Just because it is score written mean it is a perfect choice. Look how many composers revise. Maybe a score will offer latitude for tempos and alternate voicings (Mahler). How about "Pictures at an Exibition" where Ravel completely rewrote sections of the piano score? I am NOT advocating rewriting by anyone other than the composer, but even in a Schoenberg score there is flexability in music which goes beyond the composer.

I played under Stravinsky in Dublin in 1966 (viola). I was 24 then. Shook hands with the great man during a rehearsal break. He conducted his Symphony of Psalms only. The first half of the concert was conducted by his assistant - Robert Craft. Stravinsky perspired profusely, and kept a bath towel around his neck for most of the rehearsals! It was wonderful to be in his presence, and I still boast about it!

I do wonder if this can be considered a definitive reading of the piece, considering not only that this performance is nearly 50 years after it was written, but by an orchestra for whom there was clearly some struggling. It appears to me as though Maestro Stravinsky is keeping the tempi fairly flat, almost in a "this is the best I can do under the circumstances" mode.

i find it hard to listen to stravinsky so much since I'm more of a Mahler fan. This one is a lot easier to comprehend than Rite of Spring. That piece still befuddles me every time.
