396? HA. I used to eat those like Tic-Tacs with my '69 383 Road Runner. Chevelles were all weight. They needed the 454 to move. The RR was 400 lbs lighter. Combine that with a 4-speed and a 4:11 Dana rear, and all the GM guys got to see were those big square tail lights. :)

A series of genuinely desirable American cars. After these though, Detroit lost the plot and could not come up with anything so spectacular. These cars were the pinnacle of American automotive engineering at the time. Now there are desirable American cars once more like the Cadillac CTS-V, Camaro, Charger, Mustang and more. Its suddenly the swinging 60s again.

Sorry the 396 Chevelle was NEVER king of any street that I knew of. MUCH quicker street cars out there than the Chevelle...428 CJ Mustang,440 4bbl/6bbl....and more. Beautiful cars, owned a couple,but KOS, not so much.

This is for the guy that spats off about the " Jap crap" I agree with you that there will NEVER be cars as cool as the classics, but lets get real. For a daily driver, a modern car is the only choice. Lets see, going on a trip with the family there is not one person that would rather go in a 1969 Road Runner than a Toyota Camry.
